Erman Ozgur


Erman is a qualified lawyer in Turkey. He is a legal consultant and acts as Counsel in international arbitration. Erman holds an LLM with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh and an LLB from Ankara University. He completed his training at the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels in 2012, where he researched and wrote on the investment and competition law provisions of the Energy Charter Treaty. Erman is currently a PhD Research Scholar in the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) of the University of Dundee.

Areas of Interest

Erman regularly researches and publishes on international public law, international arbitration, energy market regulation, competition law, oil & gas law and provides legal consultancy in investor-State and commercial arbitration (including both ad hoc – UNCITRAL – and institutional forms – ICC, SCC, LCIA), downstream energy law and electricity and gas market regulation, and oil & gas agreements (including oil & gas supply contracts and Production Sharing Agreements – PSAs). He possesses practical insights into sale of goods disputes under the LCIA as well as infrastructure disputes in ICSID and under the Turkey-Italy bilateral investment treaty (BIT). Erman also has extensive practical experience under the corporate, commercial and competition laws and regulations in Turkish courts and administrative bodies. His research focuses on the institutional fundamentals of international investment law (in particular the Fair and Equitable Treatment – FET – standard) and how tribunals approach issues of fairness and consistency in investor-State arbitration.
